Avro Tudor crash

1952, date unknown but at about 2pm an Avro Tudor, flying from Johannesburg, went off the runway and lost its undercarriage. It came to rest on the B4505 Chesham Road. None of the crew were injured, they apparently went to the base café for a cup of tea. The fire crews tried to deal with the fire, which was to no avail as the hoses were full of holes. The plane continued to burn until only the tail fin was left. This was later dragged back on to the airfield.
